The BBC Bocumentary Sheds Light On The Mindset Of Bandit Leaders

Bandit kingpin, Abu Sanni, in a documentary released, yesterday, by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa Eye, said insecurity in Nigeria has become a business everyone, including the government benefits from. Yusuf Anka, a journalist, who crisscrossed remote bandit enclaves in the state, undertook the 50 minutes documentary titled The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara. The BBC documentary sheds light on the mindset of bandit leaders, the booming nature of the kidnap-for-ransom business and how insecurity in Zamfara State may have been triggered by ethnic conflict between Hausa and Fulani groups. The bandits who spoke with the BBC team accused the government of neglecting them and giving priority to the Hausa community. Sanni said the 279 schoolgirls who were kidnapped on February 27, 2021 in Jangebe, Talata-Mafara Local Council area of Zamfara State by his gang was done to disgrace the government as revenge for sending the military after them. LP Cannot Perform Miracle With Peter Obi -Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the chances of the Labour Party in the 2023 election. In an interview on Arise TV on Friday, Atiku stated that the presence of this erstwhile running mate, Peter Obi, cannot boost the chances of the party, because it has no structure. He said, “I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take as much votes from the PDP as people are suggesting. We could have seen it in the last election in Osun State.  What was the performance of the Labour Party? "This is a party that doesn’t have a governor, doesn’t have members of the national assembly, doesn’t have members of the state Houses of Assembly. And politics in this country depends on structures you have at those various levels; at the local level, at the state level and at the national level. "It is very difficult for a miracle to happen, simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party.” Credit: Twitter | Arise TV

Buhari Under Pressure To Change Nigerian Constitution, Run For Third Term - Garba Shehu

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari recently came under pressure from political influencers to buck constitutional impediments and seek power for a third term — but quickly emphasised that the Nigerian leader spurned the gambit in favour of existing constitutional stipulations on term limits. “In fact, from 2019, we have seen persuaders come before our very eyes and tell us that leaders should not go; that term limits are a nuisance and should be eliminated,” Mr Shehu said in an appearance on a Channels TV political magazine programme Monday evening. However, Mr Shehu, who insinuated that his principal was more democratic than past leaders before him, such as presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, said that Mr Buhari was eager to leave office in 2023. “But Buhari wants to make the point that ‘I am not here to stay a day beyond my term of office and be sure there’ill be an election’,” Mr Shehu added. To further...

PRESIDENTIAL TICKET.

The Muslim-muslim ticket by APC has generated lots of concerns and vociferous outrage from mostly Nigerians of southern region and perhaps the Northern christian minority.  I honestly do understand why some persons feel scared about it, however, I refuse to validate or consolidate that fear for some reasons. APC is just one party, we have other parties in Nigeria. One of the beauties of democracy is the availability of options. Crying over APC's candidates in the midst of other candidates questions our readiness to change the status quo or our capacity to make and accept informed decisions. There's only one major reason behind the Muslim-muslim ticket by APC; electoral victory.  Without a Muslim VP, the APC will lose significant votes from the North and probably lose the entire presidency. This is the fear and the reason for a Muslim VP. Don't let anyone beguile you to make it a religious problem, if you do, you will keep losing the big picture.  I'll n...

Dr. Joseph Iorhii's The Many Unanswered Questions On Kuje Prison Attack

As I read the PUNCH this morning, I had no doubt in my mind that the Kuje prison attack had much more to it than met the eye. Let me simply give you the facts and leave you to figure out the rest by yourself: 1. When the Kuje prison attackers gained entry into the prison facility, they went straight to a section of the prison that houses terrorists and called them out by name. Why did the authorities keep dangerous criminals in one place? How did the attackers know that all of them were there, in the first place? 2. The 15 top Boko Haram fighters, who were released by the attackers, were moved from Shiroro prison in Niger state to the Kuje prison facility just 2 weeks ago. How did the attackers get the information? 3. The gunmen, it is reported, operated unhindered for about 2 hours. There was no reinforcement until they left. Meanwhile, the headquarters of the NSCDC and Nigeria Immigration Service in addition to a NAF base are a few kilometers away from the prison. And this is in ABUJ...

DISCUSSING THE ROLE OF YOUTHS IN A DISTRESSED NATION

. By Mathias Sende The youths are the most populated members of  any nation of the world. They are the ardent most active agents of   any given country. It is unarguably, that, the youths are the live wire of any country. And any nation that repudiates to invest in youths development is simply heading to doom. According to Benjamin Disraeli, "Youth of a nation are the trustees of posterity". The future of any nation lies on the shoulders of the youths. The cliché that says  "youths are the  leaders of tomorrow" is never a joke or mirage as seen in many countries. But it is the principle  guiding the activities  of many nations that wish to develop.  In a country where corruption, impunity, incompetence, misconduct from the so called leaders, misutilization of state resources, misdirection, negligence/dereliction of primary duties, blundering on official matters, dissipation, fraudulence from public officials, cruelty, molestation and i...

Media Aid is Not Thuggery

Media aids must know that they have lost their voices and personal opinions on public issues. That is the sacrifice that goes with the job. This is because your comment(s) on public issues is/are attributed to your boss. Another aspect of it is that, your boss must  authorized everything you present for public consumption. Even your choice of words while writing must reflect the personality of your boss. It's about the image and opinions of your boss not you.  Overtime, media aids in Benue State have metamorphosed from intimating the general public on the activities and feelings of their bosses on public issues to insults and abuses on people's personalities. It is a very difficult situation to  understand because every one wonders if it is their bosses that direct such insults or it is the opinions of such media aids.  Today, media aid is no longer a cherish job that is meant for intellectuals with high classes  of university degrees and...

Why Peter Obi Should Accept To Be My Running Mate- Kwankwaso

Peter Obi Should Accept To Be My Running Mate, It's A Golden Opportunity For Him — Kwankwaso Kwankwaso who confirmed that his party, NNPP, had been in talks with the Labour Party for a possible merger, said the main problem that hindered progress was the issue of who would become the presidential candidate. According to him, the south-east will miss a golden opportunity if the LP candidate, Peter Obi, is not his running mate in 2023. His words; “From the discussion with the Labour Party, the main issue was who becomes the president if the parties merge. “At the end of the day, some of our representatives thought that there should be a criterion in terms of age, qualification, offices held, performance and so on. “Of course, the other side would not want that. Most of the people from there believe that the president has to go there (South-east). “If I now decide to be the vice-presidential candidate to anybody in this country; NNPP will collapse because the party is based on what we...
